Bwin has been online since 1999, joined (actually purchased) OnGame in 2006, and is now one of the biggest poker sites within that poker network, which is the second largest overall (not counting the large independent sites). The software is top-notch, and extremely available, regardless of your operative system.

The player base is pretty huge, the game variety is more than decent, and tournaments start all the time - both cash tourneys and satellites to big events around the world.

Bwin runs a very active online sports betting site, so you can expect some “unusual plays” among your opponents. Keep your eyes open and apply careful table selection to maximize your profit.

Promotions and Bonus Information

Bwin works hard to keep their players and attract new ones. Month after month, the site launches lucrative and entertaining promotions, and of course you have the usual bonuses like sign-up, reload and refer-a-friend.

To clear the Bwin poker sign-up bonus, you have 60 days to earn the necessary player points by playing on real-money tables and generating rake. Each dollar in your bonus amount requires eight poker points.

For example, if you are eligible to a $100 sign-up bonus, you need to gather 800 points. When you’ve reached this target, the bonus is transferred to your poker account and you're free to play with it, withdraw it, waste it on roulette, or whatever you want.

Poker Traffic

The Ongame network is one of the biggest poker networks in the world (fifth place at this writing,) and by signing up at Bwin you instantly get access to this huge player base.

Like all other sites, games at Bwin are heavily weighted toward Texas Holdem, but other poker variations show an upward trend, not least Omaha of course.

The tournament room at Bwin is downright bristling with activity. Tournaments go off once every five minutes or so, around the clock (that’s 24/7/365.) Tournaments with added value and guaranteed prize sums up to $75,000 are frequent. Bwin also hosts lots of satellites to big events, both live and online.

Don’t expect the typical Bwin player to be a blockhead; play at Bwin is often rather competent. Although, some players are definitely not ready for the WSOP, and the lower the limit, the more likely your nuts on the turn will be out called by a weird one-outer. You will also encounter sports bettors avid for gambling action, which is often all the way nice.

The freeroll calendar at Bwin is not quite of the same caliber, but it’s not empty either. You may have to work a couple of hours to get at the added $300 0r so, but then again, it’s a free ride. Bwin poker features traffic peaks up to 5,500 simultaneous real-money players (March 2010.) Awaiting gentler regulations, Bwin is not open to US players at this time. So the peak hours mostly occur at European night time.

Software & Graphics

Ongame is one of the old men in online poker, and their poker software has had time to go through all early phases in the life cycle of a complex software system. Today it’s extremely stable and well-functioning, with up to four simultaneous tables.

With the latest big upgrade, Ongame and Bwin have gone a step further in playability, throwing out elements that are purely decorative and don’t contribute to web usability. The table view is exemplarily clean and crisp, and players’ actions well displayed with bright colors. Action hot keys are a great addition.

Of course, if you really want to, you can choose to keep the old design, with avatars and chairs and rug and all that.

Bwin also goes a long, long way to accommodate every player’s desires when it comes to where and how to play online poker. Apart from the very nice download client, Bwin offers both no-download poker and mobile poker.

If you’re on a Mac or Linux computer, if you’re in an Internet café, even if you’re on a bus or on a trip way out in the wilderness, you can always enjoy a juicy real-money poker game on Bwin. If you have coverage.

Statistics and player notes are fully fledged, and Bwin works nicely with Poker Tracker.

Game Variety

The game variety at Bwin is not bad at all. Except for the mandatory holdem and the almost mandatory Omaha, there are also Seven Card Stud and Five Card Draw. Omaha and Stud can be played in the usual high-low format, and you’ll have the standard mix of fixed limit, no limit and pot limit tables to choose from.

If you prefer full ring, short handed play or even headsup, no problemos. Stakes start at $0.1/0.2, that is, not extremely low. On the other hand, if you’re a high roller – or planning on becoming one, Bwin lays no-limit holdem games with stakes up to $1,000/2,000!
