If you like Texas hold'em and find Omaha interesting, you may enjoy Crazy Pineapple, which falls somewhere in between. Crazy Pineapple is a community card game like hold'em and Omaha, but with an interesting twist.
Starting Play in Crazy Pineapple
In Crazy Pineapple, each player gets three cards to begin the game. There is a small blind and a big blind just as in hold'em or Omaha. The player to the left of the big blind may call, fold or raise, as may the players after him moving clockwise around the table. When the action gets back to the big blind, he may check or raise if no one has raised.
The Flop and the Discard
After the three card flop, players must discard one of their three hole cards. This card will no longer be in play. Since Crazy Pineapple is usually played as a high low game, players must decide which two cards give them the best chance of winning the high, the low, or both. Once all players have discarded, another round of betting ensues.
The Turn and River
The remainder of the game is played just as hold'em. There is a betting round after a fourth card is put on the board and after the fifth card. Once all bets are complete, players use their remaining two cards along with the five cards on the board to make their best and worst five card poker hands. The best hand shown down splits the pot with the worst hand. When determining the worst hand, aces are low and straights and flushes do not count, so the nut low hand is A 2 3 4 5.
